Pop artist Hunter Blair Ambrose has always lived somewhere between worlds.
Blending pop, R&B, and dark electro-pop textures, Ambrose has built a sound that is both theatrical and emotionally intimate. Her music draws from deeply personal experiences while pairing cinematic visuals with moody sonic landscapes.
In a recent conversation with Breakline Press, Ambrose opened up about her creative process, the emotional honesty behind her songwriting, and the new direction she’s taking with her upcoming project.
Writing From Real Life
For Ambrose, songwriting is rarely abstract. When asked whether her music pulls from personal experiences, she didn’t hesitate.
“I write from personal experience 100%. Always,” she said.
Many of her songs explore complicated relationships and emotional tension, themes that have become a defining element of her music. The raw honesty in her lyrics is intentional, giving listeners a window into moments of heartbreak, reflection, and growth.
Finding Her Sound
Ambrose’s music sits comfortably between genres, mixing pop melodies with darker electronic elements. While some artists avoid labels entirely, Ambrose says she is very aware of where her sound lives.
“I do think about genre because I’ve established a pretty specific sound for myself,” she explained. “I think I’m really good at writing for my voice.”
Her influences include artists known for both powerful vocals and theatrical presentation, such as Lady Gaga, The Weeknd, and Janet Jackson. Ambrose says she’s always gravitated toward artists who treat music as a full artistic experience.
“I tend to gravitate toward artists that have some element of spectacle or theatricality in their presentation of their art.”
For Ambrose, the visuals surrounding the music are just as important as the songs themselves.
A New Chapter
Ambrose’s debut album Scorpio Season leaned heavily into darker themes, both sonically and visually. The project was filled with brooding songs and imagery inspired by heartbreak and introspection.
But her next chapter is heading in a new direction.
After relocating to California and taking time away from music, Ambrose found herself reconnecting with the sounds that first inspired her to create.
“I took a break from music that lasted longer than I expected because it stopped feeling fun,” she said. “I had to reconnect with the music that made me fall in love with it when I was younger.”
That rediscovery led her toward the shimmering synth-pop sounds of the 1980s. Ambrose even went as far as buying vintage synthesizers and teaching herself how to play them.
“I started getting really nerdy with it,” she said with a laugh.
What’s Next
Ambrose confirmed that a new lead single is already finished and could arrive as soon as this spring or summer. The release will mark the beginning of a new project — one that represents a more personal creative identity.
The project will be titled “Tauremini,” a name Ambrose created by combining the two zodiac signs she was born between: Taurus and Gemini.
“My first album was tied to someone else,” she explained. “This next project is rooted completely in my own identity.”
With new collaborators, a fresh sonic palette, and a renewed sense of excitement around creating music, Ambrose says she’s ready for listeners to hear the next evolution of her sound.
“I’m really excited for people to hear it.”
